Cosmetic surgery in Poland is experiencing a boom among teenagers. Hundreds of teenagers studying or just completing high school make appointments with plastic surgeons in plastic surgery clinics during the summer break. The numbers are high enough for plastic surgeons to consider April, May and June the peak season for cosmetic surgery.
Doctors see a 30% to 40% increase in the number of surgeries done on children during this period. Plastic surgeons say teenagers usually come in for breast reduction, nose correction or rhinoplasty procedure, and liposuction.
Cosmetic surgery is no longer an option only for the elite, though it is expensive. Parents from lower middle-class backgrounds are willing to scrape together money to make their children feel better. Students prefer summer because they get time to recuperate. Plastic surgeons in Poland agree that this is a good time for surgery, as when they go back to school, the scars post surgery will already be barely visible.
