The first one or two nights, depending on the type of surgery, you will have to stay in the hospital and nurses will help you with the wound dressing and care. During the first 3 or 4 days after the procedure, you will have a follow-up visit with the surgeon, who will examine how the wound is healing and will control the drains. You have to take into account, that two weeks after the surgery you will not be able to work. Usually people come back to work in 3-4 weeks after surgery and to the everyday duties, such as cooking and driving, after 2 to 3 weeks. Some patients after the classical surgery need even 6 weeks time off.

Stitches are usually left until 5 to 10 days after the abdominoplasty, but in some cases they can stay even for 14 days. The wound is dressed and drains are left inside. After hospital recovery, you will have to change the dressing by yourself, as instructed. Avoid smoking when wound is healing, because nicotine can delay the process. That is why an ideal tummy tuck candidate is non-smoker. The wound will heal beginning from the most outer margins. For the first three months scars can be red, but after one year should become significantly smaller and they will fade. Some surgeons advise to use Steri-Strips, pieces of medical paper, which help to flatten the scars and to give a better cosmetic result.

After a surgery you may be advised to wear a support garment, a type of the tight band that goes around your belly. The garment should be wear as long as the swelling exists, which usually means 4 to 6 weeks. One of the abdominoplasty complication  is that your skin on the belly can be numb for a few months, as the nerves were damaged. Usually you will recover the sensation after a few months. Directly after your surgery be careful with a shower and ask your surgeon when can you take the first one. Some doctors allow it after 2 or 3 days after tummy tuck, other insist on the sponge bathes, even until one week after. Under the shower avoid hot water, because it can cause an infection, which is one of the risks of abdominoplasty.

Insurance companies usually do not cover a tummy tuck surgery, unless there is a medical reason, like hernia. That is why it is a good idea to choose a cheap abdominoplasty abroad. In Europe you will  find a lot of clinics, which offer surgery in the low cost prices. However, cheapest and high -quality abdominoplasty you will get in one of the polish clinics. In this case you will stay in Poland about 5 to 10 days, depending on the type of surgery.
