Table of contents
How liposuction is done?
There are many different types of liposuction available, but the main parts are similar. The surgeon makes small incisions in the desired area and inserts cannula that will suck the fat from your body. After the procedure is done, the incision is closed with small stitches. You can choose one of the following types:
- SAL (suction assisted lipectomy)
- UAL (ultrasound assisted lipectomy)
- PAL (power assisted lipectomy)
- LAL (Laser assisted lipectomy)
- TCAL or TCL (Twin-Cannula Assisted lipectomy)
- WAL (Water Assisted lipectomy)
- NIL (Nutational Infrasonic lipectomy)
- VASER (Ultrasound Assisted lipectomy)
During the initial consultation, the surgeon will tell you what type of liposuction he suggests and in which he specializes in.
How big are liposuction incisions?
Unfortunately, there is no way to have a liposuction procedure done without making incisions. Usually, the incisions are quite small, just to fit the cannula and are located in the least visible places. Incisions for liposuction are usually about 1 cm or less in length. Also, you need to take good care of your incision site and use silicone ointment. That way, you will minimize the visibility of scars.
Where will the scars after liposuction be placed?
Depending on the treated area, the surgeon will place the incision in the least visible and convenient place. In case of tummy liposuction, the incision is placed in the underwear area, so that you can hide scars easily. If you will have liposuction done in a different area, you should ask your surgeon about scar placement.
How long does it take for the scars to heal after liposuction?
This issue depends on every patient individually. If you are healthy and do not have any longstanding medical problems than you can go back to your normal routine 4 days after the procedure. Until the incision site is closed, you need to regularly change your bandages and clean the cut. After it is closed, you can use silicone ointment to help with the scarring.
