Lauren Manzo lost 30 pounds after gastric band surgery
Lauren Manzo and her struggle to lose weight were the main thread of this “Real Housewives of New Jersey” season. She tried to exercise and keep a diet. Her mother Caroline, who also struggled with her weight, described Lauren as “eight pounds of sausage in a five-pound bag”, but with poor results. Lauren decided to have the weight loss surgery when she was 24. She had a lap band surgery in 2011 and managed to reduce the weight from 83 kg to 70kg. She told Us Weekly that the reason why she decided to have the surgery was depression and bad mood. She just started to feel bad in her own body. Over 9 months, Lauren managed to lose 13 kg. She keeps saying that “Getting the lap band was the best thing I’ve ever done in my life”. Some people criticize Lauren for taking this step saying that she would be able to lose weight without any surgery but was too lazy to keep diet and exercise regularly. Lap band surgery is one of the least invasive weight loss procedures and is best for people not qualified for more serious surgery due to not being obese enough. Doctor Michael Fiorillo performing lap band in New York tells: “I don’t think [lap band surgery] is a quick fix. A lot of people have genetic problems. You have to meet certain criteria to get it. You’re not just going to go in there and say, ‘I want a band because I need to lose 10 pounds.’ There have to be certain criteria: failed diets, a body mass index of 40.”
